OculusCreating a personal destination
Oculus was created at the studio as an experimental work composed of an I-beam and five rims and hubs from antique horse drawn wagon wheels. The sculpture was purchased by the clients for installation in a flower and water garden adjoining their residence.

Oculus refers to a viewing device. We envisioned this work as framing views of the sky, the sun, moon, and the landscape. Once the sculpture is oriented to the horizon, it can function as a calendar.
Before the sculpture was installed in its permanent home, we temporarily installed it in a hayfield facing East, to see how it looked during the sun and moonrise.
